Entrepreneur.co.za’s Success Club

November 25, 2007 by Jamaal

Early in 2007 my good friend Hashiem Croeser (of C3 Technologies) introduced me to Entrepreneur.co.za, an initiative driven by Brian Walsh to be a “complete support and development solution for entrepreneurs.” I signed up for the email newsletters (which I received regularly, and passed on to my friends), and I received notices of the regular seminars. Brian WalshBrian is actually from Cape Town, but he is currently based in Joburg. He hosts seminars and networking events in the 3 major centres of South Africa, i.e Cape Town, Joburg, and Durban.

If you ask any entrepreneur, he/she will tell you how lonely it is. It’s very tough being an entrepreneur. Many times you feel overwhelmed, and you feel isolated. When interacting with a group of people who are in a similar “place” as you, you realise: “I’m not alone!” – and suddenly there’s a sense of relief and an increase in confidence. I have experienced this, and I’ve heard these sentiments expressed by many during the course of 2007.

I guess what Brian is trying to do is establish a community of like-minded people, and to coach them on certain skills to help them on their journey.

17 November (last week) was the first time I attended any of the events. It was a seminar held in Cape Town called The Branson Way. Well we all know Richard Branson and the Virgin empire that he has established over the last few decades. Richard is an out-of-the-box type of guy, and his unique way of doing things has earned him great entrepreneural success and acclaim.

I must say this: when I attended the seminar (held at the Atlantic Imbizo Conference Studio, V&A Waterfront) I expected Richard Branson himself to be there. Brian was going through a powerpoint presentation and I kept anticipating Richard’s grand appearance. :) I soon realised that this was not going to happen! It was a very motivational session though, and I’m glad I attended.

I also attended the subsequent Power Event in Cape Town on 20 November, and it was equally inspiring. This was more of a networking event and the participation of the other entrepreneurs was really encouraging.

I am now a member of Entrepreneur.co.za’s Success Club. There are many benefits of being a member of this club, but a key benefit for me is the free Starter Pack which all members receive as a gift. Starter Pack
This pack contains 10 motivational cd’s and I’ve already benefited immensely after only listening to 3 of them. The sort of motivation and encouragement that Brian and his guest speakers transmit is just what an entrepreneur needs. I’ve long been a fan of motivational speaking and coaching. One particular speaker, and apparently one of Brian’s mentors as well, is Anthony Robbins. Anthony, or Tony as many know him, is a well-renowned speaker and is one of the most famous development coaches in the world today. I’ve been listening to his cd’s for years, and I assure you that he is extremely talented and knowledgeable in his field.

I’ve been speaking to Brian about possible collaboration between our companies, and we are both keen to expand and strengthen the Entrepreneur.co.za community.
