The Methodology of Experts
May 27, 2008 by Jamaal
Last week I picked up a magazine which had a close up picture of Tiger Woods on the cover. The cover story was about his enormous wealth and success. Looking at the magazine I thought about what it takes to achieve that level of success. Hours of training on a daily basis? Lots of sacrifices? Of course.
Do you know Anthony Robbins? He’s a world famous motivational speaker and personal development coach. I’ve been listening to his talks for a few years. He’s also written a few books. A few days ago I listened to one of his talks again, and he said that when he was doing research, he read over 700 books on personal development.
Can you believe that?
My aim is to be an authority in this country on Web 2.0 and how it affects small business. That’s a big aim. And I’m learning day by day that it’s only an intensive formula that is going to achieve that result. That formula includes regular writing, on this blog and others, engaging with online and offline media agencies, and reading – lots and lots of reading, tons of it. There is so much information out there, but if you’re in my position you need to know as much as you can. When I deliver seminars I always learn a strong lesson: No matter how much you know, and how well prepared you are, people always ask you the strangest questions – and if you don’t know the answer, you’re deep in the water. Luckily my experience and ongoing research has kept me above water, but it’s something I will have to keep at.
I’m sure it’s the same in many industries. Always learning and re-learning. I don’t believe in mediocrity. I believe we have to excel and be at the top of our game. Winning takes courage I guess!
